Benefits
MMA-Based Rapid Cure Mortar / Polymer Concrete from Silikal
Simple
Silikal R17 Polymer Concrete is a two-component resin mortar, featuring low linear shrinkage and easy application.
Fast
Downtime for repairs is often a significant inconvenience. Our rapid cure mortar / polymer concrete enables full traffic use in under 60 minutes, greatly reducing interruption.
Durable
It achieves compressive strength of 75 MPa and tensile strength of 27.5 MPa, exceeding normal concrete standards, all within less than an hour.
Facts About Silikal MMA Mortar Systems
Low Temperatures
Installation is possible even at temperatures as low as -10°C, with a special grade available for -25°C.
Resilience
Exceptionally durable against weather and UV, while also offering resistance to hot water and various chemical agents.
Minimal Shrinkage
Significantly lower linear shrinkage compared to regular concrete.
Non-Porous
Completely liquid-tight and impermeable, effectively blocking liquid penetration.

Applications
Silikal reactive resins are used to create both heavy-duty and decorative floor coatings for almost all industrial areas, as well as mortar systems for extremely fast and heavy-duty concrete repairs. Silikal has specialised in the technology of methacrylate reactive resins and has proven itself over many millions of square metres for 70 years.

Unique Features
Silikal’s high-quality mortar systems stand out from others due to their rapid installation capability. Remarkably, they are ready for use approximately 1 hour after work completion. This efficiency is attributed to the unique properties of the binder – Silikal reactive resins based on methyl methacrylate – known for their quick and almost temperature-independent hardening. These key benefits distinctly distinguish Silikal’s reactive resin mortar systems from other resin mortars, such as those based on epoxy resins.

Concrete Repair with Mortar Alternatives
Mineral mortars, typically comprising cement as a binder for sand and other aggregates, are commonly used for concrete repair. The mixture sets hydraulically with water, and additives may be incorporated to enhance specific concrete properties. Cementitious mortars can be applied to wet substrates but have limitations:
- They only harden above 0 ºC,
- Require lengthy setting times,
- Offer limited flexibility and wear
Surprisingly, there’s less awareness that concrete can also be renovated using mortars where synthetic resins, not cement, bind mineral aggregates. There’s a misconception that synthetic resins lack the compressive strength of concrete. However, synthetic resin-bonded mortars often exhibit higher strengths than concrete and surpass many of its performance characteristics. Reactive resin mortar or polymer concrete systems are primarily used for refurbishment due to their rapid application and immediate usability, often resulting in lower overall refurbishment costs.
Silikal Mortar / Polymer Concrete Systems
Silikal mortar systems are suitable for extremely fast and highly resilient concrete repairs without interrupting operations. Harder than concrete itself, liquid-tight and easy to use are just three of the many advantages of Silikal mortar systems. The reactive resin mortar systems are already convincing in road construction, traffic areas, industrial plants and many other areas worldwide.

Exceptional Qualities of Silikal Mortar Systems
Silikal mortar systems, formulated with methyl methacrylate, reactive components, and specially graded sand aggregates, boast unique properties. Invented over 30 years ago by Silikal, this mortar remains unparalleled for concrete surface or component repairs, particularly under challenging conditions. No other comparable mortar matches its rapid curing abilities at low temperatures or its superior material properties compared to mineral mortars.

Optimal Adhesion with Silikal Mortar Systems
The Silikal R17 mortar system includes a 15 kg bag of filler component and a 2-litre can of hardener liquid. When mixed, they form a pourable mass ideal for filling repair areas. Substrate preparation is crucial for perfect repair quality. A primer coat, such as SILIKAL® RU380, is recommended for optimal adhesion. A standard set of Silikal R17 can restore approximately 1 m² to a thickness of around 1 cm. Silikal R17 is also available in special grades, suitable for application in sub-zero temperatures (down to – 25°C).

Customisable Aesthetics of Silikal Reactive Resin Mortar Systems
Silikal R17 reactive resin mortar is typically pigmented in “concrete grey” but can be supplied in other colours for larger orders. It can be applied in any layer thickness, using coarse aggregates for certain applications. Surfaces made with Silikal R17 can be overcoated for enhanced aesthetics. Silikal R17 is tested and certified for various uses.
Silikal's Reactive Methyl Methacrylate Resin System
Silikal’s reactive MMA systems are notable for their rapid curing, achieving full load-bearing capacity just 1 hour after the final application, even at sub-zero temperatures down to -25°C. Free of Bisphenol A (BPA) and Di-Isocyanates, they are especially suitable for use in food preparation
